Wars used to happen continuously, the one who had to have refreshment, he used to keep it with himself and take it. The Udupi king used to arrange for the dinner. They used to arrange food for both the parties. They were not involved in the war. There used to be wars from sunrise to sunset. The killing of Sindhu King Jayadrath, the killing of Abhimanyu are examples of this. In 18 days, only on the 10th day the war took place till noon, after that both the armies were stopped to mourn the death of Bhishma's Sarsaiya.
There were some rules in the war of Mahabharata. But these rules started breaking after Abhimanyu's slaughter, especially when Ghatotkacha came in the war. After Ghatotkach entered the war, the war continued till night. Demonic warfare style battles mostly take place at night. The Pandava group got more benefit from this. Because the art of war skills at night did not exist in that period.
The rule of attacking the back was also not there in the war of Mahabharata. One person could fight one person at a time. It was against the rules to attack a warrior who was unconscious or injured.
About 50 lakh people participated in this war. The biggest war of that period was the war of Mahabharata.
